Tradition!

For those who don't know, my sister Bridgett and I have this habit of staying up VERY late, chugging Yoo-Hoo and/or Dr. Pepper and watching television well into the wee hours of the morning. With Christmas just around the corner, (in case you weren't aware of that foreboding fact), we decided we needed to start a new tradition. So on Christmas Eve we are going to start a movie/TV marathon to go all night. We are looking for suggestions as to what to watch.
Some ideas include picking one set of movies, (i.e. Indiana Jones, Rocky, Pirates of the Caribbean, Rambo, Ghostbusters, Star Wars, etc.)
Other ideas include picking one actor or actress and watching all the movies with said person, (i.e. Drew Barrymore and ET, Fever Pitch, My Date with Drew, 50 First Dates, Charlie's Angels, etc.)
But then again, thanks to the advent of television on DVD, we could watch an entire season or series of a show, (i.e. 24, House, Arrested Development, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville, MacGyver, etc.)

So my faithful family, friends and readers...we are looking for suggestions. The one that comes up with the best suggestion will win not only our thanks and praise...but also our Respect. And can you really put a price on that?

If you care to join us in our veggitative state, please submit an application.

HAPPY SUGGESTING!

Cousin Mark suggested 24, Arrested Development, and Lost...

If we watched 24 we might be able to get Dad to join us for a while...

I too have had the all-night-with-the-tv-marathon idea. I've done it a couple of times, in fact. My list includes: all the Godfather movies, Lost, 24, Anne of Green Gables followed by Anne of Avonlea. Each experience, for its unique reasons, required several days of recovery. In all honesty I would warn people of taking on such marathon madness.

When I was a kid, that was our family tradition...to watch movies all night long on New Years Eve. We all slept in the living room, and it was fun to see who could stay awake the longest. It was always my dad, lol. It was so much fun. However, I am way too old for that nonsense. When H and I were on our first date, we watched the entire first season of Arrested Dev in one night...I think I finally fell asleep around 4:30 am. We were complete zombies for a week afterward; I just can't recover the way I used to!!

As for recommendations, I also support House and Arrested Development. Top quality stuff, there; you can't go wrong.

Dude my birth video! I believe it was just about 24 hours if I remember right. I could send ya a DVD cuz I just transfered it and the best part is when your awesome cousin comes into the world.

Oh, my gosh...all nighters? I shudder at the thought! Just staying up until 11:00 about kills me and I'm sleepy the next day (unless it's Black Friday-then for some reason I can stay up all night and not suffer any ill effects!) I guess I don't have any suggestions...sorry, I just had to comment though!

Watching all night of 24 would give me a heart attack-that show is great but I can only take so much of the never ending tenseness. Can you imagine the nightmares you would have afterwards!

I would suggest the classics like; Back to the Future, Indiana Jones, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (you know you own them) or the 80's romances like, 16 Candles, Can't Buy Me Love, Girls Just want to Have Fun.

Sounds fun, wish I could join you.

I would just turn on TMC (I think that's the channel) and watch A Christmas Story over and over and over and over and over and over or, I really like Craig's idea of his birth video--although there's not really a surprise ending, you already know what's going to happen.

The office or Freaks and Geeks.

Good Idea. I love it.

I vote The Office and spencer votes for a James Bond marathon (sexist pig:P). We're so glad we found you through Mark's blog. Feel free to stop by ours...ok, mine...anytime!

Ah...Freaks and Geeks. What a wonderful show. Right now I am leaning towards picking a composer, (i.e. Danny Elfman), and watching all the movies that he helped out on. That would include such greats as Spiderman, almost anything with Johnny Depp or done by Tim Burton, and of course...The Simpsons!

There is always the extended version of Lord of the Rings...that should put you through the entire night, well almost. THEN you could watch episodes of Monk, or the Office, or House! Or Seinfeld, or heck you could just watch all 800 DVDs that you have...in alphabetical order!

My vote is for LOST. That series kept us awake on a through the night drive from Utah to Cali!! Love that show!! However, how is Santa supposed to come when you are not sleeping?

I am thinking Iron Will, Lion King, and Forest Gump....

Gee...I wonder who this last anonymous one was from.

I like the actor idea - only do it chronologically...that way you get to see their talent arch. Like if you picked Elizabeth Shue you could start with Adventures in Babysitting, where she really wasn't that bad. Then Back to the Future 2, where her acting is so bad it hurts my feelings. THEN move into The Saint, where again, not that bad. And close it off with her Oscar-nominated performance in Leaving Las Vagas.

OR, OR, wait - I have the BEST idea EVER. You could do a birthday marathon - pick only movies that star actors that were born on that day. For example, if you picked New Year's Eve, you could watch Fletch, starring Tim Matheson; How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days, with Bebe Neuwirth; and Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang with Val Kilmer.
